After missing the first two cuts of the year, came back strong with consecutive top-10 performances at the ING New Zealand PGA Championship (T10) and the Chitimacha Louisiana Open (seventh). His third top-10 finish of the year was a T9 at the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs, finishing four strokes behind winner Ken Duke. Was 11-under-par 273 at The Rex Hospital Open, good enough for a T5.

Personal
From January 1996 through March 1997, gave up on golf to pursue career as a financial analyst. List heroes as Jack Nicklaus in golf and former President George Bush in politics. Dad brought him to local muni at age 6 to learn golf.
