Into the 21st Century
The Era of Thomas Beckett, Peter Pulaski, and Scott Ramsay

In 1983 Ben Crenshaw came to Yale to admire the work of Raynor and Macdonald. Touring the course, he became increasingly alarmed and saddened and was moved to write then-President Bart Giamatti, calling attention to the sorry state of what he termed a “national treasure.” But nothing changed for a decade until Tom Beckett arrived as the new Director of Athletics. Since 2006, the Yale Golf Course has been rated the best university course in the country. Much of the credit for that belongs to Tom Beckett, Peter Pulaski, and Scott Ramsay, whose collective vision and efforts have moved Yale golf into the twenty-first century and restored the course to the front ranks of American courses.
